Happy Sunday! It is guest blogging time!…
This week’s blog is written by my dear friend Sonja Shradha Devi, a gorgeous Australian goddess whom I had the pleasure to spend a month with in Bali Eco Village during the Tao Tantric Arts Teacher Training.
Shradha teaches the art of Wild Sacred Femininity worldwide and when I met her I instantly fell in love with her warmth, wisdom and lava like aliveness.
The topic she’s chosen is The Art of Radical Body Love, an art and a skill that can literally make the shift from hell to heaven, in terms of how we experience life in our body…
The Art of Radical Body Love
Yes, It is an art!
It is also a life path, and most importantly, a choice.
Fortunately this art, of loving my body, and celebrating it on a daily basis is one that I have chosen to cultivate.
And it is part of my life purpose to get more and more women along for this delicious ride.
It began with a choice, myself like anyone, has plentiful opportunities to buy into a negative self image mental program and to believe the random critical thoughts that pop up in my head.
You know the ones! These are the thoughts that encourage you to focus on your’ imperfections’ and compare yourself to other ‘more beautiful’ women.
I remember a key moment of realisation that I had when I was living in the sacred (but very dirty and chaotic) city of Varanasi in India.
My skin was becoming very dry and I was also quite sick (yet another perk of Varanasi…) and I had this tiny little mirror in my room that I would look at occasionally and think woefully ‘I look old’.
Huh? What? I noticed this new thought that was beginning to appear in my headspace and I wondered ‘since when do I buy into that ‘too old’ paradigm???
It was at that moment that I understood clearly that the ‘too old’ and also the ‘I am ugly’ or the ‘I am ____ (please place your chosen criticism in here) – are paradigms that are always available for us to buy into if we choose to!
So why, I wondered, would I choose to go down this road?
I am not into pointing fingers at the media for the rampant self-image problem so many women experience.
I am into empowerment, I am pro awareness, I am pro choice, most of all I am pro life and I have done my research – and noticed that when I entertain negative thoughts about my body i feel drained and unhappy.
And I have found that there is (thankfully!) another option.
Here is how the art of Radical Body love works:
I choose to nurture thoughts that nurture me.
Instead of wasting my precious time and energy telling myself I am inadequate I choose to affirm that I am AMAZING and just perfect as I am.
I choose affirming and life enhancing people, food and media. I am disciplined about this. I am super aware of where I direct my energy and what I choose to surround myself with.
Life force enhancing practices
Everyday in so many ways i give thanks for this beautiful body of mine through honouring it as the temple that it is.
I do this through keeping it feeling juicy and vibrant.
I do this through energy cultivation practices that boost my energy and awareness of my body.
So I dance, I have a juicy yoga practice, I practice sexual vitality Chi Gung, I meditate, I nourish myself with things I LOVE like massages and hugs and raw chocolate and people who celebrate me.
And I love it! This art! This path! This life! I am a Proud Sacred Sensualist who says YES to this experience of being inside a woman’s body.
And I ask you,
What have you chosen?
And how do your choices make you feel?
And if you are not already a devoted to enjoying your feminine body, are you ready to make some different choices?
Sonja Shradha Devi, a modern day priestess and devotee of the Sacred Feminine, envisions a world of sensually empowered, deeply satisfied women who love their bodies and life free from guilt, fear and shame.
She lives to support this vision into fruition and on this sacred mission she walks her talk, follows her body wisdom, makes love to life on her yoga mat and ecstatic dance floors and nourishes herself and others with the Tao Tantric feminine arts.
